Jonathan’s Landing Long Range Plan
It has been an exciting time for the Long Range Planning Committee and their undertaking for a twenty year plan that will enhance the aesthetic appeal of Jonathan’s Landing. Coutler & Hearing, the firm retained for the long range plan, has provided the Committee with exciting renditions of conceptual designs for this multi-faceted project. Plans were presented for “re-facing” the guardhouses using coquina, a natural authentic stone and focusing on an appearance that will be architecturally timeless. The initial phase of the landscaping plan proposes an “old Florida” style and runs from both the North Gate and the Central Gate and down Captain Kirle Drive, creating an impressive entrance that will lead to the Club House and our new Tennis and Fitness Center. Coutler & Hearing has chosen the Live Oak as the boulevard tree for JL as this tree will provide a beautiful canopy over the roadways of JL in the years to come and is the tree Alcoa planted along Casseekey Island Road and on the west berm. The Golf Club graciously donated several Live Oaks which were planted along the cart path near the Fitness Center on POA property. Coutler and Hearing also provided designs for our entrance signage and landscaping, village signage and ideas for improving the aesthetics of our bridges. The POA Board intends to accomplish this plan without the need for any additional funding.
UPDATE: The new entrance signage and directional signage are both in the permitting stages. The Committee chose a brushed shell stone in lieu of coquina for the signs. A sample of the shell stone can be viewed at the POA office. The re-facing of the guardhouses has been postponed to explore the merits of new construction versus re-facing the building.
A great source of current information for JL residents can be found in the monthly POA Board Meeting Minutes.

Watch System Update
After several months of reviewing different technologies to replace our watch system, the JLPOA Board, the JL Cable Board and the Director of Security determined that it would be in the best interest of the POA to postpone the replacement until closer to the end of the Comcast contract which is December of 2014. The Boards agreed that better technology and competitive bidding will be available at that time. Currently there are not enough replacement home terminals to last more than three years. However, with the cooperation of our residents to install surge protectors to help prevent damage and the current practice of repairing home terminals, the POA should be able to hold off on replacing the watch system until the expiration date of the Comcast contract. An informational letter to the residents explaining the situation and urging them to order and install a surge protector was mailed on May 21st, 2010. Click here for a copy of the letter.

FYI
To report a power outage to FPL
dial 1-800-468- 8243
or remember 1-800-4OUTAGE.
Even though you may receive a recording, this is the most efficient number to call to report a loss of power. A work order is created from the information you report and the information is dispatched to crews who are in the field. When there is an outage, your POA and Security Department make numerous phone calls to FPL to expedite the restoration of power. We have learned that all reports left on the recording are received and repairs are scheduled for those locations.

SIDEWALK CLOSING
On March 15th, the side walk along Alternate A1A will be closed down for construction work. The estimated time frame is 3 - 5 months.
TRAFFIC SIGNAL - BARROW ISLAND ROAD & ALT A1A
Delays between FPL and Palm Beach County are holding up the process. A sign warning of the activation of this light will be on Alternate A1A approximately 2 weeks prior to the actual activation.
WATERWAY PARK UPDATE
The de-acceleration lane for ingress to the Waterway Park along Indiantown Road has been staked. This is the area that an easement will be granted by JL for the ingress road into Waterway Park. It is estimated that permitting will take 18 - 24 month and an additional 12 months for completion. This would bring the date to sometime in 2013 for the park to be ready for use.
Marina Restaurant Update
The JL Golf Club will not be moving forward in operating a restaurant at the Loggerhead Club & Marina located within Jonathan’s Landing. The new owners of the marina will be soliciting proposals from outside enterprises to operate a restaurant. A recent poll taking by the presidents of the Villages regarding the possibility of a restaurant came back with positive results from our residents. At this time the POA will not be offering any financial support in regard to operating a restaurant at the marina. Keep checking our web site for up to date developments.
